[ Okay, so maybe more than once, but he's not about to admit that. It's probably because Zack's bigger than him, anyway. Yes, he'll blame that.
He snaps his head up, quick reflexes immediately going for trying to catch the hurled ice cube. It's slippery when it lands in his hands, and ends up slipping out of them and landing on the floor. Cloud sends an unimpressed look Zack's way as he picks it up and drops it into his glass. ]
Maybe. [ Probably not. But at least going forward, he has the sense to just take the tray on over with him and offer the rest Cloud's way. ]
I managed to finish off those guard dogs that were roaming too close to the edge of town, by the way. Good thing, too. They were starting to get too close to that playground.
[ Cloud rolls his eyes as he plucks out a second ice cube and drops it into his glass. He leans back in the couch again and sips his drink as he listens to Zack. ]
Oh? That's good. That needed taking care of. Hope you don't have anything too strenuous planned for tomorrow though.
[ He smirks a little as he holds up his glass. With the amount of booze they have, hangovers are a definite possibility. ]
[ He shoots an almost wolfish grin Cloud's way. It's there and then fading fast though. Zack returns to the fridge, putting the tray back in the freezer and then pushing with the door still open and hiding his face now. ]
Eh, I might have a date tomorrow, but you know us SOLDIER folk. We sober up pretty quick.
Oh, you know. [ Zack closes the freezer door loudly with another dumb grin. ]
Barret's girl. We got flower crowns planned and everything. [ So, he should probably be making extra sure he's sober, but. He'll get there. For right now? He's flopping back into the seat next to Cloud and taking to his bottle now. He adds with a wink: ] Jealous?
Yeah, well, too bad! I gotta keep my title as the Fairest of them all, after all!
[ Zack's practically bouncing at the pun as he downs a couple long gulps from that bottle now. Comes up for air with an exaggerated gasp and sighs as he melts into the two seater. ]
[ Zack lets out a noise at that slap reflexively. Probably should just keep his mouth shut at this point. Instead, he's going to go and try wrapping an arm around Cloud's shoulders instead, leaning into his space. ] Ah, you'd miss me too much if you did! I'd be getting some kind'a sad, drunk call in the middle of the night!
[ He's probably just asking to get kicked out with his best worst impression that comes next as he mimes a phone with one hand. ] 'Zaaack! Come back!'
[ Cloud wriggles a little when Zack invades his personal space and wraps an arm around him, but it's mostly for show. He doesn't mind it even half as much as he pretends to. He snorts at Zack's stupidity and tries to smack him again, even as a smile tugs at his lips. ]
You're an idiot.
[ There's undeniable fondness in his voice even as he insults his best friend. ]
I wouldn't miss you at all.
[ A blatant lie of course, and he doesn't even bother trying to pretend like he means it. Instead he smirks a little and downs the rest of his drink in one go. ]
Yeah, yeah.. [ There's something smug in Zack's features as he takes another mouthful from his bottle before he sets it down. Relaxes backwards into the couch again, pulling Cloud back along with him.
His expression only then schools into something a little more serious. ]
So, how many drinks will it be until you wanna talk about it?
[ Okay so maybe he'd hoped that Zack would have forgotten about that... He stiffens a little before reaching for the bottle and filling up his glass again. ]
[ Zack nudges Cloud again just a little. Only afterward grabs his own glass that he had deposited down with the bottle prior. He finally pours some of his drink into it, watching it foam before finally pulling his arm back around from Cloud and reaching into the bag next. He holds up a mixed syrup and waves it Cloud's way. ]
[ More for him, he figures. Ends up uncapping and dumping a good bit of it into his glass to fill out the rest. Then sets that bottle down and attempts to mix it with shake of his hand along to try and swirl it before he gives up and goes for a spoon. Stirring away, he looks over his shoulder. ]
[ Cloud gives him an appalled look as he watches him dump the syrup into the drink. ]
What a waste of good booze.
[ He shakes his head in disappointed disapproval as he sips on his own drink. He's starting to feel a slight buzz, but he's still far from being drunk. ]
[ Zack mocks scoffs in answer, but that's about the most rise Cloud gets out of him at the moment. Not when they have more important things to discuss as he's tapping his chin shortly after in thought. ]
Hm... I dunno. Something funny? Unless you're jonesing for something with a lotta action.
[ Zack takes that remote and takes the wheel easily for that matter. If Cloud's really ready to tempt fate with him like this, well. He made his bed.
A few flipped channels later and he finds something slapstick and campy to watch. Maybe it'll help the mood for his friend. Maybe not. He's not sure, but what he is sure of is how often they must use their tag line in the movie.
Downing the last of his drink, he proposes with the glass held high. ] Why don't we make a game of this? Whenever they say 'Chocobo got your tongue?', you gotta drink.
[ Cloud gives him a "really?"-look, but doesn't protest. Instead he just snorts and shrugs his shoulders as he downs what's left in his glass. He reaches for the bottle and re-fills it. ]
[ Zack gives that big ol' dumb grin in answer. That's really all it takes for him to fall into the habit. A challenge is a challenge, after all, and he's not about to lose! Even if it's all in good fun.
So, he falls into the rhythm, gulping one drink after the next. He apparently hadn't really accounted for just how much they said that stupid catch phrase. But the answer is clearly a lot. Enough that he's certainly starting to laugh a lot louder at the slap stick jokes. Starting to slump just a little bit against Cloud as he drawls: ] You still with me, Spike?
[ But fuck, is he getting dizzy and very much affected by this. They really do say that stupid catchphrase a lot. He's long since lost count of how many drinks he's downed, he just knows it's a lot. ]
This show's stupid.
[ He's definitely slurring his words at this point. When he feels Zack slump against him, he does what feels natural and leans right back against him, his head almost on Zack's shoulder. ]
[ Zack muses, his arm coming up around Cloud now when he feels him lean into him. He ends up with his hand in his hair, mussing it lightly as he murmurs near his ear. ]
But you still agreed to watch it with me. Does that mean your taste's as bad as mine?
[ Oh, the arm around him and the hand in his hair... that's nice. Cloud lets himself relax into Zack, very much enjoying this moment. Probably more than he should, but being drunk, he doesn't care. A shiver goes down his spine when Zack murmurs into his ear. ]
I just gave you control over the remote, s'all. 'm not stupid like you.
[ Childish insults, but they're said with a great deal of fondness. Best friend privileges means he has the right to insult Zack. ]

A date, really? Who'd you trick into that?

Incredibly. Nothing I wanna do more than play princesses with a 5-year-old.
